Lawn care & landscaping in Toledo.

Weekly mowing, fertilization, cleanups, and snow removal across Toledo neighborhoods — 4D's home base.

Lawn care built around Toledo’s older neighborhoods

Toledo is our home base, and it’s where John Dawley has spent the better part of a decade managing lawns. The city’s character shows up in its yards: tight urban lots in South Toledo and Deveaux, deep tree-lined lots in Old Orchard and West Toledo, and the big Victorian properties of the Old West End, where century-old trees shade most of the turf by mid-summer.

That shade is the number-one challenge we see in Toledo. Grass under mature maples and oaks competes for water and light, so it thins out, and the bare patches fill in with moss and weeds. Our fix is simple and consistent: keep the mowing height up in the shade, core aerate in early fall, and overseed with a shade-tolerant blend instead of the sun-loving bluegrass that came with most older homes.

The soil under the city

Most of Toledo sits on the old lake plain of the Great Black Swamp — dense, poorly drained clay. It holds nutrients well, but it compacts fast and stays soggy after a heavy rain. That’s why we rotate our mowing direction 30 to 90 degrees every visit and why we come back the next day instead of mowing a saturated lawn on a rain day. Ruts in Toledo clay can last all season.

Point Place and the lakefront

Up in Point Place, between the Maumee and Ottawa rivers and Lake Erie, yards deal with wind, sandier pockets, and lake-effect snow in winter. We adjust fertilizer timing for lawns that dry out faster and keep those properties on our residential snow route when winter hits.

What Toledo customers book most

  • Weekly mowing with bagging in spring and fall and mulching in summer
  • Fall core aeration and overseeding for shady, thin lawns
  • Multi-visit leaf cleanups from October through early December
  • Residential driveway and walk snow removal

Toledo is the center of our 12–15 mile service area, so it’s also where we can usually fit new customers in fastest.

Toledo lawn care FAQ

Which Toledo neighborhoods do you mow in?
All of them. We have weekly routes through West Toledo, Old Orchard, Westgate, the Old West End, South Toledo, and Point Place, and we add new streets every week. If you're inside the city limits, you're on our map.
My Toledo lawn is shaded by big old trees. Can you still get it thick?
Usually, yes. Shady West Toledo and Old West End lawns do best with a slightly higher mowing height, fall core aeration, and overseeding with a shade-tolerant fescue blend. We'll walk the yard and tell you honestly what will and won't grow.
Do you handle the heavy fall leaf drop in older Toledo neighborhoods?
Yes. Neighborhoods with mature oaks and maples can need two or three leaf visits between October and early December. We bag leaves in the fall so they don't smother the turf, and we can schedule recurring leaf pickups through the season.
